POSITION TITLE: Environmental Technician - Repost – Kinder Morgan Trans Canada
DEPARTMENT: Lands, Leasing & Tax
SUPERVISOR: Lands, Leasing & Tax Manager
TERMS: 1 – Year Term Position, (with option to extend).
REFERENCE #: 2018 – 077

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The purpose of this position is to work under the direction of the TteS Environmental Specialist to represent TteS interests in matters related to stewardship and environmental protection within the Tk’emlúps Traditional Territory. This position provides analysis, advice and recommendations related to human and industrial activities and their impacts on the environment. 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitors human and industrial activities to ensure they are being carried out in a manner consistent with TteS laws, by-laws, policies and protocols, and provincial and federal regulatory regimes and acts related to environmental management and protection.
- Monitors, evaluates and analyzes key valued ecosystem components and associated impacts and prepares monitoring reports with recommendations.
- Conducts environmental fieldwork including, but not limited to, monitoring, surveying, testing, data recovery and mapping.
- All other duties as related to the role required.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND OTHER SKILLS:
Professional Certification, Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences or a related discipline.
- 1-2 years complimentary field experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Spill response and hazardous materials management would be an asset.
- Completion of Resources Information Standards Committee (RISC) Archaeological and CMT Inventory Training would be an asset.
- Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license.

Skills and Abilities
- Strong appreciation and knowledge of Secwépemc cultural history, values and protocols.
- Knowledge of TteS laws, by-laws, policies and protocols.
- Knowledge of provincial and federal regulatory regimes and acts related to environmental management and protection (e.g. the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA), the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA), and the Species at Risk Act (SARA)).
- Knowledge of observational and sampling techniques for flora, fauna, water, air, soil or other related environmental data.
- Knowledge and identification of plants, wildlife, aquatic systems, soils and landforms.
- Ability to operate and maintain laboratory and field equipment.
- Ability to read maps and navigate variable terrain.
- Ability to comprehend, interpret and write technical reports.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, coordinating and planning skills.
- Strong problem-solving and judgement skills.
- Ability to work well in teams and independently in both office and field environments.
- Ability to handle sensitive material in a confidential manner.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

HOURS OF WORK: Normal Day shifts – 7 hours. Non-normal shifts maybe required.

PAY GRADE: As per current TteS wage grid.
