ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE


The BC First Nations Forestry Council (‘Forestry Council’) is an advocacy organization that works to support Nations in efforts to increase their role in the governance and stewardship of forest lands and resources, and participation in the forest sector as full partners. A non-profit organization, the Forestry Council works closely with government and First Nations to develop forest sector opportunities, and to ensure First Nations’ priorities, values and principles are incorporated into forestry-related legislation, policies and program development.

ABOUT THE ROLE


Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Policy Program Manager provides strategic policy, research, legislative analysis, and advisory services. This role liaises closely with a broad range of representatives from governments, the First Nations Leadership Council, First Nations partner organizations, industry, and others to advocate and advance forest policy and legislative reform to support the implementation of the BC First Nations Forest Strategy, and to reflect Indigenous values, priorities and principals in the management and stewardship of forest lands and resources. The Policy Program Manager is responsible for ensuring effective communications with First Nations and FNFC partners regarding FNFC initiatives.

The successful candidate is expected to have proficiency across a range of core knowledge, skills and abilities in order to successfully fulfill their responsibilities.

This is a challenging and dynamic opportunity for a public policy professional who is committed to advocating for the role that BC First Nations should play in the governance and stewardship of forest lands and resources. The ideal candidate will have a background in law, public policy, forestry, environment, and/or economics. The successful candidate will have a minimum of three (3) of demonstrated experience in providing strategic research/policy analysis, project management, and advisor services - specifically analyzing complex public policy and First Nations issues.
As a First Nations organization advocating for, and supporting BC First Nations, the FNFC gives favourable consideration to Indigenous peoples.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 3 years experience
    • Law or Public Policy
    • Forestry and Environment
    • Or Economics
  • Experience working with First Nations or other Indigenous organization is an asset
